Founded in 2006, Buckhead’s community garden is located in the Blue Heron Nature Preserve. The site of this garden is an old housing development, so the land is being re-purposed. The gardeners donate much of the grown goods to the Crossroads Community Ministries Soup Kitchen. Currently, there are 32 individual plots that yield everything from flowers to herbs and assorted vegetables. The site is also close to the homes of many a honey bee, which help with pollinating the plants and flowers.

Located right in Decatur, Oakhurst Garden is part of the Wylde Center greenspace. Oakhurst Garden is as unique as it is diverse. Gardeners will find everything from community plots to a greenhouse, an herb garden, chickens and varied ecosystems that encourage creativity in gardening. This garden is a non-profit that puts as much a premium emphasis on education as it does growing delicious produce.

Brockbuilt homes has set a new high standard for living with its new community of homes in Norcross at Adams Vineyard. This neighborhood is modern living at its finest with greenspaces and a community garden. The walking trails and park lead to a community garden and a vineyard of all things. This community is all part of the wonderful seven-acre nature preserve that is the newest addition to Downtown Norcross. Brockbuilt is taking community gardening to a new level with Adams Vineyard.

Teaching children to garden may be a bit of a lost art, but the mission of Gilliam’s Community Garden is to teach and encourage kids to garden. Kids and community residents are taught everything from planting, preparing, juicing and eating the vegetables grown in the garden. Different elementary schools come out on school trips to Gilliam’s, and it regularly also hosts church and community groups. Membership applications are available on the website, so just complete the form and bring it with you to Gilliam’s when you come out to visit. Gilliam’s doesn’t allow the use of any synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers.
Off Dobbs Road and just east of Chattahoochee Technical College, you will find the beautiful plots of the Woodstock Community Gardens. There are limited 20′ x 20′ plots and also some 10′ x 10′ plots that usually have to be reserved a year in advance. Existing plot holders have first priority to keep their plot for the following year. The Community Gardens are part of the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department. Located in Cherokee County in the north metro area, Woodstock has always put a premium on sustainability and activities for its residents.
