Cool off and splash around at Atlanta’s newest park, Historic Fourth Ward Park Conservancy. The Sprayground features two splash pads; one where the jets shoot water from out of the ground and another where the water comes from above. Next to the Sprayground, enjoy a spacious modern playground. Explore the amphitheater beside the playground surrounded by an aesthetically pleasing man-made lake with a fountain in the middle and a waterfall. Adjacent to the Sprayground, there is also a skate park for skate boarders and BMX riders. It is not currently connected to the park but it will be in the future.

Saddle up and head out to Chastain Horse Park. The distinguished 13-acre equestrian center has undergone a $2 million renovation project, rejuvenating stables that have been around since 1939. Chastain Horse Park offers riding lessons for beginner, intermediate and advanced skill sets. It also provides therapeutic riding lessons for persons with disabilities for $50 per hour that may be covered by insurance. This is a great place to bond with family members, putting a little hitch in everyone’s giddy up.

Teach your kids (and spouse) about money this summer with a tour of the Atlanta Fed’s Monetary Museum. Exhibits feature historical artifacts, allowing the whole family to learn the tale of money from bartering and trading to more contemporary times. Visitors may view the automated bank vault and take a look at the cash-processing facility where millions upon millions of dollars are counted, separated or shredded daily. The Visitors Center is equipped with communal multimedia exhibits with comprehensive lessons on the role of the Federal Reserve in the U.S. economy. Groups of nine and fewer may partake in self-guided tours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Larger groups comprised of 10 people or more are required to schedule an appointment for a guided tour.

Take your family to enjoy popcorn and a great movie in an amphitheater-style setting. All summer long, Atlantic Station converts its Central Park into an outdoor movie cinema on Thursday nights. Movies begin promptly at dusk and are viewed on a large screen. The August movie line-up includes: “The Notebook” (Aug. 2), “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (Aug. 9), “The Blind Side” (Aug. 16) and “Hugo” (Aug. 23).
