If only Atlantans could show up to work in flip flops, shorts and tank tops, the summer would be a much more bearable season. However, that is not the case and Atlanta residents constantly search for a way to remain cool during the hot summer months and still look professional at work. Thankfully, Salima Fetter, a stylist at Beautycounter, shared her tips for staying cool and looking businesslike.

Salima Fetter has been a stylist for almost three years. She knows Atlanta fashion well, as she grew up here and is now raising her own family in town. She has a background in marketing and is thrilled to have the opportunity to explore her love of fashion. She recently took on a new venture as a senior manager for Beautycounter, a line of all-natural skincare products. She uses both outlets to share trends and styling tips and connect with other women as she works to understand their personal style and help them feel confident and beautiful in what they wear. Salima was kind enough to share her tips for beating the hot Atlanta summer while still looking professional at work.

Accessorize – Use accessories to revamp your spring and summer wardrobe.

“If you don’t have the budget to do a total overhaul on your closet, invest in a few quality and versatile accessories that you can wear with many outfits. It’s amazing how a statement necklace or a striking pair of earrings can completely transform a dress or shirt and give your outfit a fresh and new feel.” Salima notes that Giorgio Armani himself cites the importance of finishing touches: “Accessories are important and becoming more and more important every day. They can completely change the look of an outfit, and women like the idea of having a wardrobe that’s versatile. For instance, a strong piece of jewelry can make a simple outfit look elegant.”

Crop it – A cropped jacket is a staple piece for any woman’s closet.

It’s often difficult to find pieces that allow you to move easily from the office to happy hour, but cropped jackets are a workable solution. “Cropped jackets are not only fun and easy to wear over pants, a skirt or jeans, but they can also easily transition from day to night.” Salima notes that the versatility of this garment makes it “perfect for the busy professional woman on the go.” It’s always great to have a jacket on hand given Atlanta’s unpredictable summer precipitation, too.

Flower child –Get sassy in a floral or printed full skirt.

Salima advises that we should not be afraid of a brightly patterned skirt, especially if matched with a more subtle top. “Skirts are chic and sexy, on trend, work appropriate and will keep you both looking and feeling cool in the hot Atlanta summer. Pair it with a neutral collared shirt or tee and layer with a jacket or cardigan if your office tends to crank up the AC. You have a perfect summer outfit that can go from work to happy hour on a patio!”

Be bold –Make your outfit pop with a bold color or print.

“An easy way to brighten up any outfit is to incorporate a pop of color. If you’re wearing black, grey or white pants, wear a bold top or colorful earrings or a necklace. Throw on a patterned or bright summer scarf over a sleeveless solid shirt – it looks gorgeous and is an effortless way to wear color.” Salima notes that when choosing a color, always trust your instincts and heed the words of Coco Chanel: “The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.”

Bag it –A great bag can transform any outfit.

“A handbag that is both beautiful and functional is a must-have. I love versatile handbags that can expand or shift from tote to purse so you can get multiple looks and fit everything you need for work. Throw a cute clutch into a bigger purse to help keep you organized and give you a smaller purse option if you have after-work plans. Great purse trends right now include perforation, linen, coral or citrine, and black and white.”
