There is a gap between what cdhliren ought to do, including which role models they should follow, and what they actually do in the age of omnipresent television. Some pro sports, including baseball, already demand a high standard of dress and behavior of the players, on and off the field, and forbidding chawing on the field would not be a far reach. It’s also not surprising that politicians seek publicity for doing good on both sides of the aisle. But I doubt that anything would ever come of such a ban since the chawing is not advertising and not an item of interstate commerce. It must be in same legal category as blowing bubble gum.

Does everyone keep firtegtong that politicians who invent and fund such programs are doing so because the public wants them? Why the public wants them is an interesting sociological question, but we still fortunately live in a democracy where the people get what they want. Unfortunately, because the people don’t want to pay for their wishes, we get ourselves into a financial hole. In both cases the politicians we elect have trouble leading public opinion to a good place instead of just following it. Most bloggers have the attitude that what they want is their birthright and that the rest of the public has a duty to finance it. Hooray for democracy!

I agree. One thing I learned at the Motorcycle Safety Foundation class was the siwrveng and throttle control are both your friends. We did many siwrveng drills,as they believe that siwrveng out of the way of a hazard is infinitely better than laying the bike down. In fact, people will say I layed the bike down to avoid a crash. Well, they define that as a crash. Gunning the throttle at the right moment can take you out of the path of danger.I don’t have any Joe Rocket gear but I understand it’s good stuff. I mostly ride Olympia and Tourmaster.

I imagine siailmr, although I suspect Latinos would represent a much higher incidence of rape than they do serial killings. I also think that there are more serial murderers out there that go undetected due to the fact that their victims ( prostitutes and others living on the fringe) are less likely to be reported missing by families that have lost track of them. Many serial killers, whether by design or chance, work in a large geographic area crossing many jurisdictions; it often takes some time for police to link them, sometimes they never do.
