Indianapolis Colts Linebacker Edwin Jackson will be laid to rest Monday after being killed along with his ride-sharing driver in Indiana early Sunday morning by a drunk driver.
Jackson’s funeral service will be held at Big Bethel AME Church in the historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood of Atlanta beginning at 11am.
“We were blessed to have had an amazing son who lived a life that extended respect, love, and genuine concern to everyone,” said his family in a statement adding, “He showed compassion for his community and strived to be an example to kids who looked up to him.”
Jackson attended Westlake High School in Atlanta and was a walk-on football player at Georgia Southern. The Arizona Cardinals signed Jackson as an undrafted free agent in 2015.
He was later signed to the Indianapolis Colts where in 2016 he played in all 16 games recording 66 tackles.
Colts Owner Jim Irsay is expected to cover funeral expenses for both Jackson and Jeffrey Monroe, the 54-year old driver.
His family ask that you keep his legacy alive by donating to the Edwin Jackson 53 Foundation that he started to empower athletes and youth.
