I thought I tested a great car last week.
Beautiful interior…..great feel….good acceleration and braking….and mid-30 MPGs on the highway…..all for under 35K. And it was a great car.
And then I got into this ’17 Lexus ES 350.
Let’s face it……Lexus just kinda’ helps define “great”.
And US News and World Report agrees…..calling Lexus’ 2017 ES 350 ‘The Best Luxury Midsize Sedan for the Money”.
In short, it simply offers more comfort, convenience, quiet, safety, and performance than 99% of its’ drivers will ever fully appreciate or utilize.
Now understand, this level of excellence doesn’t come free. If you can actually find one, a base ES 350 will sticker just a hair under $40,000. That’ll get you a 3.5 liter, 268 HP six-cylinder with leather and alloys and a six-speed auto.
It’ll take just over 7 seconds to go to 60, and will get you 30 HWY MPGs….in comfort.
Then to “Lexus-it-Up”….ie: to add all the features and luxury touches that you expect from a vehicle like this…will run around another nine thousand. But after you’ve made that investment, you’ll have upgraded to perforated heated and cooled leather, 18” alloys, a blind-spot monitor, wood trim and a wood and a power tilt and telescoping leather heated steering wheel, dual moonroofs, Mark Levinson 15-speaker stereo, and a power trunk. Again, pretty much everything that you expect to see when you open the door of a Lexus.
Are there sedans out there that will out-run and out-handle an ES 350? Sure. Quite a few, in fact.
But if you want proven reliability and resale along with your luxury and performance, Lexus’ ES 350 is tough to beat.
And if $45-$50,000 is a little bit of a stretch for you, look for an off-lease three-year-old ES 350. You’ll probably be able to find one for between $25 and $30,000 with a good 50 – 100,000 more miles left to enjoy!
