Dekalb County, GA — Capt. Ruth M. Stringer has been named interim sheriff in DeKalb County, replacing Jeff Mann during a 40-day suspension.

Stringer was appointed to the position Tuesday by DeKalb Superior Court Chief Judge Courtney Johnson.

On Monday, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal issued an executive order suspending Mann starting Tuesday – the suspension stemming from Mann’s arrest for allegedly exposing himself in Piedmont park and running from an Atlanta police officer.

Deal last month instructed Attorney General Chris Carr and two county sheriffs to investigate and report back within 30 days. State law allows the governor to convene a panel of two sheriffs and the state attorney general to investigate and to recommend whether to suspend a sheriff facing criminal or ethics charges.

Mann has pleaded not guilty to charges of indecency and obstruction of an officer. His trial is scheduled for July 7.
