It’s next to impossible to predict the chaos that is the NFL draft. but that doesn’t stop us from trying.
John Fricke offers four potential shockers that might happen in the 2017 draft.
4. The Falcons will trade up five to seven spots to take T.J. Watt or Forest Lamp: I believe the Falcons love the 6-foot-4, 310-pound Lamp. They could well view him as an instant starter at right guard. Watt is J.J.’s younger brother; a slobber-knocker of a 6-foot-4, 250-pound OLB that could be the big to the speed of Jones & Campbell.
3. Leonard Fournette will go No. 2 overall to San Francisco: The Coach who’s name we won’t mention needs a pass-catching, speed breakout back. Yes, they need a QB, but could find that guy in Round 2 (If, for example they value Davis Webb or Brad Kaaya equal to a Trubisky or Watson).
2. Two teams will trade up into the top 15 to take a QB (four drafted before mid-first round): It is still the premium position and how far the four projected first-rounders (Trubisky, Watson, Kizer and Mahomes) fall from the top three to four picks (if they do) could well create a flurry to grab one of them in the Nos. 8-15 range.
1. The Browns will trade the No. 1 pick: In a poll last week, 11 of 16 NFL personnel executives voted Myles Garrett as the best player available. That means there is a lot of interest in him. Enough that the Browns will get a couple calls and an offer they can’t turn down.
