GWINNETT COUNTY, GA- An arrest has been made in the death of a Gwinnett county toddler. The child was run over by a vehicle in front of her home.
Police said Wednesday the child’s grandmother, Gilma J. Ordonez-Guevara, 44, has been identified as the driver of the vehicle that fatally backed over the 23-month-old girl. She faces charges of vehicular homicide, hit and run, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and driving without a license.
According to the incident report the accident happened Tuesday around 4 p.m. in the 1000 block of Memory Lane near Lawrenceville.
The toddler was struck in front of her home. She was rushed to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
Police said Ordonez-Guevara lives at another house in the same neighborhood as the child. Cops said during a second interview, Ordonez-Guevara admitted that she accidentally struck the toddler as she was backing out of the driveway. She told police she didn’t know the child was behind her SUV. Ordonez-Guevara is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail
