GHSA State Basketball Finals: What You Need To Know

Athens And Atlanta Set To Host Georgia's Best

This is the week that high school basketball fans around the Peach State have been waiting for. It’s State Finals week in Georgia and this year there will be more games and new locations. This year the GHSA State Finals will bring the new class 7A into the tournament and that means two more games, bringing the total championship games to 16.

Last spring the GHSA made the decision to move the state finals out of Macon and divide the games among Athens and Atlanta. Games on March 8 and 9 will be played at the University of Georgia’s Stegeman Coliseum, with games on March 10 and 11 played at Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion. This will mark the first time that state championship games will be played at Georgia since 1941 . Georgia Tech has a history of hosting state championship games, but last hosted the GHSA finals in 2003.

Last year, Morgan County pulled off the sweep, winning both the boys and girls championships in class 3A. This year two schools have a chance to capture both crowns — Buford in Class 5A and Norcross in Class 7A.
