DEKALB COUNTY, GA- A DeKalb County high school teacher was placed on administrative leave after claims from a female student that he touched her breasts and made racial comments toward her.
The teacher named in the incident report is Dennis Shoemaker. The parent of the 15-year-old girl told Tucker High School officials that Shoemaker tried to intimidate the student. Officials were told Shoemaker called out the student and said: “Hey little Mexican girl,” while touching her breasts. and “You are all the same thing. You are all immigrants.”
In a statement, DeKalb County Schools spokesman Quinn Hudson said Shoemaker has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. “We take seriously any allegations of staff misconduct and, as we have done in the past, we will investigate and respond appropriately after the facts are known,” Hudson said.
Shoemaker, 57, allegedly touched and made the racial remarks to the 15-year-old girl when she was pulled for individualized education plan testing school.
According to the school district’s website, IEP testing is done when students need learning accommodations at school. The girl suffers from epilepsy and takes medication for seizures, according to the victim’s mother.
The incident allegedly took place on January 23rd.
