Douglas Co. Couple Sentenced on Hate Crime

A Douglasville, GA couple were given lengthy prison sentences after they were convicted of hate crime, stemming from a 2015 arrest in which they threatened an African-American family with racial slurs during their child’s birthday party. Jose Ismael Torres was sentenced to 13 years, and his girlfriend, Kayla Rae Norton, was sentenced to 6 years in prison respectively. The couple cried during their sentencing and pleaded for leniency, stating that they are parents of 3 children and expressed their regret for what occurred. The District Attorney of Douglas County, Brian Fortner, joined Real Talk and discussed the case and the investigation that led to the conviction and lengthy sentences with Rashad Richey.
