ATLANTA,GA- The March for Social Justice and Women has been scheduled for Saturday in Atlanta. Organizers announced Thursday Georgia Rep. John Lewis will speak at the event. He’ll headline the walk. —The civil rights leader joins a number of Georgia politicians and civic leaders who will speak out on social justice issues like health care, the environment and LGBTQ rights.
The Georgia congressman’s addition to the line-up comes on the heels of a highly publicized exchange between Lewis and the President-elect. Last week, in a news interview, Lewis said he didn’t see Trump as a “legitimate president” and wouldn’t attend the inauguration. The planned march route is from the Center for Civil and Human Rights to the Georgia State Capitol. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 O’clock.
The march in Atlanta is one of more than 600 events planned internationally for the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration. Cities across the United States are staging marches in conjunction with the Women’s March on Washington, which is expected to draw thousands.
