Trump’s Latest Nomination: Former Georgia Governor To Head Agriculture Department

ATLANTA, GA- Thursday President-elect Donald Trump nominated Sonny Perdue for the position of Agriculture Secretary. Perdue, a veterinarian was a businessman in grain trading and trucking before he became the first Republican Governor of Georgia since reconstruction. Agriculture Secretary is the only cabinet post for which Trump, who will be inaugurated Friday, had not announced a selection.
Perdue was Georgia’s first Republican Governor since reconstruction when he defeated incumbent Democrat Roy Barnes in 2002. He is the second person from the state nominated for a cabinet post in the Trump administration.
Tom Price, a physician and U.S. Representative from Georgia’s 6th district was nominated to be secretary of Health and Human Services. Senate confirmation hearings for Price are ongoing.
