“We can start changing things by just doing business with each other”, says “In the Black” tour creator Linda Spradley Dunn. The event, which is sold out tonight in Atlanta, is a gathering of women entrepreneurs discussing, among other topics, the power of black women’s vote.
Dunn says the 24-city tour, which started on November 11, has been one of healing. “As I am going around the country, people are depressed”, according to Dunn. She says the women at her conferences “are worried that some of the supplier diversity programs, some of the contracts that we get from the federal government, so many initiatives that were started, may be rolled back.” The women are encouraged, Dunn says, to see the glass as being half full. According to Dunn, “If we allow people like President-elect Donald Trump to dampen our spirit, or we don’t demand that investors invest in our community, then shame on us.”
