There has been a lot of controversy in the National Football League as players have taken a stand against social issues by kneeling during the national anthem. It all started when Colin Kaepernick sat on the bench during a preseason game in late August.
Since then, there has been an increase in players kneeling or standing while raising a fist. This isn’t just happening in the NFL. Megan Rapinoe, of the USWNT, also started kneeling during the national anthem and it’s starting to trickle down in the high school ranks.
On Monday night, every player for the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints were standing as the national anthem was sang. Following the anthem the two teams took a stand of their own — by meeting on the field and joining hands as a sign of unity.
The quarterbacks contacted each other and decided this was the right thing to do. With all the bad happening as of late in the United States, it was great to see these two teams come together.
