It has been said that he was “The King”. Tiger Woods gets a lot of credit, and deservedly so, for bring lots of new blood into the crowds at tournaments around the world.

But long before there ever was a Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer brought the game of golf to the blue-collar masses.

As news of his death stunned the sporting world Sunday night, golfers, networks and fans took to Twitter to express their respect, admiration and show their love for the icon.

NBA legend Magic Johnson added:

NFL Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis Tweeted:

Even the Pittsburgh Steelers Tweeted their respect for Palmer this evening:

Followed shortly by the NFL Network, in the middle of the Bears vs Cowboys game:

Back over in the crown of the golf world, where Palmer was The King, the Augusta National Golf Club Tweeted:

Former University of Georgia golfer, and Masters champion, Bubba Watson shared his thoughts too:
