When gospel artist Kierra “KiKi” Sheard dropped by the CBS Radio Atlanta studios Friday, I had the opportunity to talk with her about being a product of the world-famous Clark Sisters. She said “I am very blessed to be a part of my family”. She goes on to say that her mom, gospel singer Karen Clark Sheard, always told her to “encourage others, whether it be through my life or just my smile, or hugging people”.
I also asked the 29 year old Sheard about the ongoing strife between police and the African American community, and her opinion of her peers taking to the streets in order to protest the police-involved shootings. “I think it’s great”, said Sheard, adding, “I think one of the biggest inspirations right now would be Colin Kaepernick”. She called it “amazing to see how we can be fearless and to do things tastefully”, referring to the NFL San Francisco 49er quarterback’s silent protests during football games.
Kierra was in Atlanta promoting the new single “Hang On” on which she is featured.
