Drinking water in the 150 buildings that make up the DeKalb County School System is about to be tested for lead. District officials say the testing will begin on Monday, September 20th. Amid national concerns about water containing high lead, DeKalb will become the second local district to voluntarily conduct testing. The Atlanta Public Schools District began testing its water in the spring.
DeKalb County District Health Director Dr. Sandra Elizabeth Ford says if lead is ingested “it can be very toxic”. If it’s absorbed through the skin, according to Dr. Ford, “it’s even more dangerous than actually taking lead”. Comments
