Sammy Norris is a 67 year old local Vietnam veteran who is suing the Atlanta Police Department. According to Norris, it was on November 22, 2014, when he was stopped by Officer Romero Mason in the terminal at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Airport and was asked if he had a plane ticket. He says that he was at the airport to check the price of a plane ticket. Because he says that he had done nothing wrong, Norris says he resisted, and was arrested. He was jailed for 3 weeks. An Internal Affairs report indicates that the officer said he thought Norris was homeless, and was someone he (Officer Mason) had previously warned about being at the airport. All charges were eventually dropped against Norris. The police report of the matter determined that the 3 APD officers involved in the confrontation with Norris: James Curtis, Victor Marcus, and Willie Moore, were in the wrong. A request is in to the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Police Department for a comment on this story.
