A Fulton County grand jury has indicted former Atlanta police officer James Burns for murder in the death of Caine Rogers. It was on June 22, 2016 that the 22 year old Rogers was inside of a car outside an apartment complex near Monroe Drive. It was there that officers, who said they were looking for a car break-in suspect, came across Rogers. Officer Burns claimed that he’d feared for his life, that Rogers had driven towards him. But, reports indicate that an internal investigation determined that Rogers had not posed a threat. Burns was fired from the force. He was indicted Wednesday on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, making a false statement, and two counts of violating his oath of office.
