It was on the night of June 22, 2016 that APD officer James Burns shot and killed Caine Rogers outside an apartment complex near Monroe Drive. Police say they were investigating a car break-in when they came upon Rogers inside a car. Officer Burns claimed self defense, but after a review of video from the incident, APD Chief George Turner fired Burns. He is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of his oath of office.
