Falcons’ rookie 1st Round Draft pick Keanu Neal walked right off the practice field at Training Camp to join Rick and John on our stage and talk football.
Neal literally walked from the practice field to the set, out of breath and everything. The guys recap that today’s practice was a little off with Matt Ryan throwing a pick 6 and what exactly lead to it. “We had a few good plays today as a DB group,” says Neal, “but we didn’t do a good job of getting to the ball fast enough.”
The guys also recap the practice from the weekend when Neal made news for being “too aggressive” with his team. He says the team held him accountable and he appreciates it. He says that while the vets love the fire, they said that it’s too early for them to be on the ground. “The biggest thing right now is protecting the team. Everyone knows I got a good hit on one of our guys. It wasn’t a hard hit, but it was hard enough for everyone to come and check me on it,” says Neal.
Rick Kamla says, “But Keanu, you’re looking at me and I can see the fire in your eyes, and I can’t speak for everyone else, but I love it!”
The guys asked Neal about the NFL Draft and if going 17th surprised him at all. Neal said, “No, not at all. I just put it in God’s hands and let it happen. I knew he’d put me in the right place and I think Atlanta is that place.” He loves the Falcons organization and was not prepped by the Falcons, but is happy to be here.
He references some of the things he has learned from the veterans. Keanu details the rest of the day at Training Camp, which is all meetings. In a word, he calls Julio, fast. Neal says there is no injury to worry about with Jones.
