I noticed a spot on my skin about a month ago. I knew I needed to get to the dermatologist to have it checked out but just hadn’t found the time. Getting ready for Falcons Training Camp is a massive undertaking and the time seemed to get away from me each day.
I checked it daily in the mirror. I kept trying to convince myself that it wasn’t changing. But it worried me.
Every single day.
So I rolled into Training Camp this morning around 6:55 a.m. and noticed a large set of tents set up in front of the facility. The tents were labeled “SPOTme”. So I thought I’d find out what it was about.
It turns out they are doing FREE screenings for skin cancer right on site here at Training Camp. FREE! And it takes only a couple of minutes! I timed it.
So here’s how it worked…
I walked over to the registration tent, filled out a form, this part took about 1 minute. Then I was led over to one of the exam rooms and went right in with Dr. Alexander Gross and his nurse Lisa. Removed my shirt, sat down and the exam took about 2 minutes.
That was it! I was handed my paperwork and left.
Oh, and that spot I was losing sleep over? Not cancerous. Nothing to worry about. And considering that 1 out 5 Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, that made my day.
I walked away from there and breathed a deep sigh of relief.
And to think, I just came out here to cover some football practice today.
That 3 minutes might have saved my life.
