Charley Casserly, former NFL GM and current NFL Network Analyst, joined Mark and Hugh on Tuesday to talk about the Atlanta Falcons upcoming season. Casserly says there are too many issues to put it on just on one player, but they need to see more from Vic Beasley or they’ll have to draft defensively high again. He goes on to say he needs to see improved strength in Beasley as well as countermoves. By moving him into outside linebacker, it says something about his pass-rushing skills. As far as Matt Ryan, Casserly says he didn’t play as bad as people thought; it was just the ebb and flow of how the season played out with the strong start. He will be more comfortable in the second year of this system. On Dan Quinn, 8-8 isn’t a bad first year, especially with the issues he had to work with. Quinn was a great choice for this team and has a bright future along with Kyle Shanahan. Offensively, Casserly says this team is better with Mohamed Sanu and Alex Mack. He calls this team a bit of a dark horse heading into this season.
