On this week’s post fourth of July edition of Championship Rounds CCV and PG react to the recently announced Gennady Golovkin and Kell Brook fight. While the guys applaud Brook’s decision to move up two weight classes to take the fight against a fighter no one wants to get in the ring with, CCV says “Sometimes you can have too much courage.” The Peanut Gallery chimes in as well and is just trying to figure out how this fight that wasn’t supposed to be made ended up getting made. “So a week ago two 147 pound guys in Brook and Vargas had all but agreed to fight and two actual 160 pounders in GGG and Eubank Jr. were all, but ready to fight, but instead now a week later we have neither of those fights get made?”
The guys also hit on the soon to be rescheduled heavyweight title fight rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladamir Klitschko. Whatever the real reason for the recent postponement of the fight the guys debate on if it will really matter in the end once the fight happens. Will Klitschko put on a better performance than he did in the first fight with Fury? Could Fury find a way to pull off the upset again? Both CCV and PG see the fight likely now in October having a little bit of different ending this time around.
And is boxing on a Monday a good idea? The guys don’t think so and let it be known when discussing this Monday’s HBO fight featuring light heavyweight king Sergei Kovalev. CCV has a theory. “Was Game of Thrones running Saturday on HBO that they had to move the fight to Monday?” PG just hopes whatever happens on Monday night that we see Kovalev and Andre Ward fighting in November.
The guys also are still uncertain if they are going to Birmingham next weekend to see the Cris Arreola and Deontay Wilder fight live, but do both agree on two things for this fight. There will not be a lot of jabs thrown and someone is getting knocked out.
Finally the guys finish swinging with some “Low Blows.” PG although not a big UFC guy says there is one thing boxing can learn from the UFC. However he also says that UFC President Dana White probably learned a valuable lesson this week. CCV finishes up talking about a boxer who should not be allowed to fight in the United States ever again.
