The City of Conway, SC has waited a long time for a National Championship. In fact, they’ve waited forever.
It’s never happened.
So when the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers won the College Baseball National Championship on Thursday, a huge crowd came out in the middle of the night to greet them when they landed at the airport.
Here are some of the sights and sounds from the team’s arrival:

A friend of mine, Ron Roberts, works in radio in Myrtle Beach, SC just down the road from Conway and shot some video of the arrival and impromptu parade that broke out as well:

These images are amazing for the simple fact that no one, not one single pundit, would have picked this little team from this little town to win the National Championship in baseball or any other sport this year.
Or any year, for that matter.
Coastal Carolina is a small school. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 9,364 students. It’s roughly 1/3 the size of most of the schools it competed with in the College World Series.
And yet… they won it all.
