On Friday it was announced that that Roderick Toombs more famously known as “Rowdy” Roddy Piper had passed away at the age of 61. The WWE Hall of Famer and former Intercontinental Champion never won the company’s biggest prize, but was undoubtedly one if its biggest stars. A man who started professional wrestling at the age of 15, Piper was a major part of Pro-Wrestling’s rise into the mainstream in the “Rock ‘n Wrestling” Era in the mid-eighties with his infamous interview segment “Piper’s Pit.” He feuded with Hulk Hogan and Mr. T in the first two Wrestlemanias and appeared at many others. He later got into acting starring in the cult classic, “They Live.” Where he uttered the infamous line, “I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass… and I’m all out of bubble gum.” While he may be gone now, he will always live on through the people he’s inspired.

Roddy Piper was my friend and also an incredible family man. My condolences go out to Kitty and the kids. We lost an institution. GO — Gene Okerlund (@TheGeneOkerlund) July 31, 2015
