ATLANTA, GA. (WAOK)-Home Depot Inc. said Tuesday that it will hire 80,000 workers for its busy spring selling season, matching last year’s hiring level. Here in Georgia those seeking employment should know 1,200 jobs are earmarked for the state.
Home Depot also said it would rein in hiring in Canada this year, aiming to hire more than 5,500 associates, down from plans to hire 6,300 associates last year.
Home Depot and peer Lowe’s Cos. have been a bright spot in the tepid retail sector as they continue to benefit from a slowly recovering U.S. housing market. Coupled with recent economic improvements, homeowners are more willing to open their wallets for remodeling projects or big-ticket items.
Home Depot said Tuesday that the available jobs will range from cashier to online order fulfillment and include both permanent part-time and seasonal positions.
Home Depot has more than 300,000 employees and 2,269 stores across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
In January, Lowe’s announced plans to hire 30,000 seasonal employees, an increase of about 5,000 from a year earlier, amid optimism that the recovery in the housing market will spur home-improvement projects in the warmer months.
