#Trending In Entertainment: Kesha’s Lawsuit & NPH Is Hosting The Oscars

By Shawn Thomas

This week, a pop star files a lawsuit, the Oscars are already on the road to success, and television is breaking new ground (sort of).

Singer Kesha is suing her long-time producer Dr. Luke over allegations that he sexually abused her both physically and sexually. Kesha claims that Dr. Luke (whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald) forced her to do drugs before forcing himself on her. In one instance, the singer alleges that her producer told her to take “sober pills” after a night of drinking and later awoke naked in his bed.

Dr. Luke is firing back with a counter lawsuit of defamation.  He believes that Kesha and her mother Pebe are extorting him, using the sexual abuse allegations as a means to escape her long-standing contract with him.

It seems the entire case has turned into a “he said, she said” dispute, however Kesha’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, truly believes that Dr. Luke is an abuser stating, “He defaulted to form as an abuser; his immediate reaction is to not just sue her, but her mother and Jack Rovner, the only two people who protect her.”

The Oscars may be getting better and better. Following an amazing hosting gig by Ellen DeGeneres last year, the Oscars is hoping to strike gold twice tapping none other than the affable Neil Patrick Harris to host the awards ceremony in 2015.

For his part, NPH has successfully hosted four of Broadway’s Tony Awards as well as two of television’s Primetime Emmy Awards.

The versatile entertainer expressed his excitement in a statement Wednesday, saying “ To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Jonny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting Is a bucket list dream come true.”

3. Streaming Is The New Cable

Cable and network television are breaking new ground this week after both CBS and HBO revealed that they will both be releasing their own stand-alone, video-streaming services.

CBS announced the launch of “CBS All Access” which will offer subscribers thousands of episodes from the current season and previous seasons of hits like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mom,” as well as classic shows such as “Twin Peaks” and “Cheers”

Premium cable channel HBO has already offered its streaming service HBO GO to cable subscribers, but it’s hoping to enter the homes of the other 80 million homes that don’t subscribe the channel.

Snoop Dogg may have crossed the line this week after posting an off-color picture of an albino woman on his Instagram account and captioning it with “Iggy Azalea without makeup.”

The New Zealand rapper wasn’t too happy about the post and took to twitter to vent. “Why would you post such a mean pic on insta when you send your bodyguards to ask me for pictures everytime we are at a show?” she asked.

The war of words and Instgram didn’t stop there. Snoop Dogg continued to diss Iggy, making another post on his Instagram account filled with expletives.

Who knows how long the feud would have continued if Iggy’s friend T.I. hadn’t jumped in.  Snoop Dogg apologized after talking to T.I. on the phone.

Well that was…anti-climactic.

Actress Elizabeth Pena has died at age 55 of natural causes following a brief illness.  Pena was an extremely adaptable actress with a well-rounded resume that included roles on “Lone Star,” “Modern Family,” and “Rush Hour.”

“She was a role model, a truly extraordinary performer and an inspiration in every sense of the word,” the network said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family and friends during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed.”

She is survived by her husband, two children, mother and sister.
