Breaking Down The Surprises As The Falcons Release Full Depth Chart
Camp is exactly one week from ending and the Falcons have released their depth chart, at least as it stands right now.
There are the usual suspects at the top of the charts… Roddy White and Julio Jones starting at WR and of course Matt Ryan at QB.
But there are some camp standouts that are further down on the depth chart than we imagined, or are higher on the chart than we thought they’d be at this point.
First up, RB Devonta Freeman has been showing out in camp, especially the last few days, and he is listed as “Other” after starter Steven Jackson, back-up Jacquizz Rodgers and third stringer Antone Smith. Really? Freeman has been breaking runs up the middle and around the ends and really fighting his way up the depth chart. At least we thought he was.
Devin Hester has come in and gone straight to the top of the PR and KR position. Jacquizz Rodgers will be backing him up on KR’s and Robert McClain will be backing Hester up on PR’s.
There has been quite a battle at the DE position and right now Kroy Biermann and Jonathan Babineaux are starters. Umenyiora and Massaquoi are right behind them listed as back-ups with Maponga and Goodman behind them.
No surprises at LB either with Joplo Bartu and Paul Worrilow taking those two starting positions, but it was a little bit of a surprise to see Pat Angerer slip to third as Tim Dobbins is listed as the back-up to Worrilow. Prince Shembo is backing up Bartu.
