Runoff election day is Tuesday, July 22. Voters are being asked to go to the polls to decide several races that were too close to call following the states early primary. There is the U.S. Senate contest between Jack Kingston and David Perdue. There are Congressional races still undecided in the 1st, 10th and 11th districts.
In the 1st district the GOP primary runoff pits state Sen. Buddy Carter vs. surgeon Bob Johnson. In the 10th district the Republican race features Jody Hice, a conservative radio talk show host, against Mike Collins, a trucking company executive from Jackson and the son of former U.S. Rep. Mac Collins. In the 11th district Republicans Bob Barr and Barry Loudermilk will face each other.
Statewide there are two Republican candidates for School Superintendent and two Democratic opponents. On the GOP ballot, Mike Buck squares off against Richard Woods. On the Democratic side former state representative Alisha Thomas Morgan faces former Decatur school board Chairwoman Valarie Wilson.
There is a Cobb County Commission seat still undecided in district one between Robert Weatherford and Bill Byrne and in Fulton County Democrats Marvin Arrington and Brenda Muhammad former member of the Atlanta School Board face off in the fifth district Commission race.
The biggest local race on Tuesday’s ballot will be the runoff for DeKalb County sheriff, which will pit former DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones against Jeff Mann, who was appointed sheriff last year when Tom Brown decided to step down and challenge U.S. Representative Hank Johnson for his seat.
Polls open at 7 am.
