Food Stamp Law Violates Federal Rules
The U. S. Department of Agriculture tells the state of Georgia on Tuesday that no law can be passed requiring a drug test from certain food stamp recipients.
According to Robin Bailey, USDA Regional Administrator, federal rules stop states from enforcing eligibility standards such as a drug test in order to receive the benefits.
The drug testing law was enforced to ensure the recipients were not abusing drugs.
USDA Officials plan to continue to work with the state to ensure that these government benefits are given to recipients according to proper federal guidelines.
