AUBURN, Ala. (CBS Atlanta) – A billboard rented by a Bible school featuring smiling children and an Adolf Hitler quote is causing controversy at a mall.

The billboard, which is at the Village Mall, features five smiling kids beneath an Adolf Hitler quote that reads “He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future.”

Life Savers Ministries rented out the billboard according the Ledger-Enquirer.

“We are pulling the billboard and certainly never intended to cause confusion. … Herbert Hoover would have been a far better one to quote when he said, ‘Children are our most valuable resource,'” founder James Anderegg told the Ledger-Enquirer. “We are a children’s organization and had honorable intentions and nothing less.”

Historically, the quote traces back to Hitler’s speeches of the 1930s and is associated with the Nazi youth programs.

Life Savers Ministries, which was founded in 1996, requested that the billboard only be up for five days.

“Life-Savers Ministries was birthed out of a “need,” a statement on their website reads. “A need to reach the weakest and the forgotten, the “at risk” children from the roughest areas, the areas where most either speed by or shun altogether. We believe we have a responsibility that we cannot dodge. In our teaching we are giving our children the time, attention, respect, and commitment they deserve and our God requires.”
