MERIWETHER COUNTY, GA (CBS Atlanta) – On their way to get married, a young couple crashed on Interstate 85, killing one of them.
John Redman, 23, was driving his Lexus with his fiancée, Brittany Huber, 25, as the car swerved in the pouring rain.
According to Georgia State Patrol officers, Redman lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the grassy median between the south and north lanes. The passenger side slammed into a concrete bridge abutment.
Redman was knocked unconscious and rushed to Grady Hospital.
Huber was killed on impact.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her (Brittany’s) family at this impossibly hard time. She was an amazing person loved by all who met and knew her,” read a statement issued by Dalton State University Athletic Director Derek Waugh that was obtained by WGCL-TV. Redman is an assistant coach at the university.
The statement went on to read that Redman suffered severe injuries including “head trauma. John also suffered broken ribs and other fractures, but he is able to move his extremities. Please keep the Redman and Huber families in your prayers.”
The Georgia State Patrol said the weather was not a factor in the crash.
