Police: Cell Phone Mistaken For Gun On College Campus
KENNESAW, Ga. (CBS Atlanta/AP) — Police say a lockdown at Kennesaw State University has been lifted after reports of a weapon in a man’s pocket turned out to be a cellphone.
The university’s police department received a call about a suspicious man with a possible weapon around 2 p.m. on Friday. The campus was put on lockdown while police searched for him.
When they located him around 3:30 p.m., police found the cell phone.
University spokeswoman Tammy DeMel says university and police officials took the initial call seriously and responded to keep the campus safe.
Kennesaw State is the third-largest public university in the state and has more than 21,000 traditional and non-traditional students.
