HULL, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) — A bank is looking for its money back after an 18-year-old spent $25,000 that was wrongfully deposited into his account.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that the unnamed teen withdrew $20,000 in cash and spent $5,000 using his ATM card after First Citizens Bank in Hull accidentally deposited $31,000 into his account on March 7.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said the error occurred because the man who deposited the money has the same name as the teen, causing the teller to switch up the accounts.

The Banner-Herald reports that the teen went back to the bank on March 18 to withdraw more money, but the bank told him about the mistake and asked for the money back. The teen reportedly told the bank that the money came from his grandmother’s inheritance.

Authorities went to the teen’s residence where he once again said the money came from an inheritance. The teen then told authorities that he would go back to the bank to settle the matter.

The teen, however, has not returned to the bank and banking officials say they will prosecute if he doesn’t return the money.

No charges have yet to be filed.
