Tuskegee Falls To Metro State In DII Elite 8

EVANSVILLE, Indiana — The Roadrunners of Metro State College (32-1) defeated the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University (21-12), 106-87, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Metro State was led by guard Brandon Jefferson, who recorded a game-high 26 points with four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Four other roadrunners (Harrison Goodrick – 17; Nicholas Kay – 15; Mitch McCarron – 15; Raul Delgado – 12) also scored in double figures as Metro State shot 46% (32-70) from the field, 50% (8-16) from three-point range and 83% (34-41) from the free throw line.

Five Golden Tigers scored in double figures as they were led by guard Keith Winn, who recorded 18 points. Forward Richard Dixon (16 points, six rebounds, three blocks), guard Elliot Dean (13 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal), guard Camden Foster (11 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal) and guard/forward Graham Olatunji (10 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks) all posted double figure efforts in the contest. For the game, Tuskegee shot 48% (33-69) from the floor, 39% (9-23) from three-point range and 63% (12-19) from the free throw line.

Tuskegee ends its 2013-14 campaign having captured the 2014 SIAC Western Division title, the 2014 SIAC Centennial Basketball Championship and the 2014 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament South Regional crown. The Golden Tigers became only the second #8 seed to advance to the Elite Eight since the NCAA expanded the Division II playoff format to 64 teams.
