Ga. Soldier Faces Trial In Death Of Pregnant Wife

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — An Army soldier already serving a life sentence for two slayings is scheduled to face a court-martial on charges he also killed his pregnant wife at Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia.

Pvt. Isaac Aguigui of Cashmere, Wash., faces another life sentence if a military judge convicts him of murder in the July 2011 death of his wife, Sgt. Deirdre Aguigui.

The military’s autopsy failed to pinpoint what killed her. A Georgia state medical examiner who took a second look concluded she was suffocated or choked to death.

Aguigui received $500,000 in benefit payments after his wife died. Civilian prosecutors say he used that money to fund an anti-government militia group. Aguigui pleaded guilty last July to ordering the slayings of a former soldier and his girlfriend to protect the group.
