SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Several volunteer groups in Savannah are pitching in to clean up camps where many of the city’s homeless residents live.
Savannah-Chatham County police worked to get residents of the homeless camps to agree to the cleanup effort Saturday in order to improve sanitation at the two camps, which are located under highway overpasses east of the downtown historic district.
Volunteers from Savannah State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, the Savannah College of Art and Design as well as local churches and charities will be helping to remove trash and debris from the campsites.
