ATLANTA — A man was hit and killed on the Downtown Connector in Atlanta on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at about 10 p.m. on the southbound lanes near Williams Street, according to Officer John Chafee of the Atlanta Police Department.
Chaffee said a male was attempting to cross the highway from the shoulder at the center divider when he was struck by multiple vehicles. Two vehicles stopped at the scene, and those drivers were being interviewed by Atlanta Police. He said there was no indication of a stranded vehicle that the pedestrian may have been walking from. Georgia Department of Transportation cameras showed traffic beginning to back up near the area as several lanes were blocked.

Chaffee said all southbound lanes of the Downtown Connector would remain blocked during their investigation.
