ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves will wear a commemorative patch this season to honor the 40th anniversary of Hank Aaron’s record setting 715th home run.
Shaped like home plate, the navy patch will be worn on the right sleeve in 2014. It features Aaron’s signature in white script set atop of the number 715 in red. There is a classic feather at the bottom, a staple of Atlanta’s uniforms throughout the 70s. Above the plate is a banner which reads “40th Anniversary.”
The team posted a photo of the patch on its official Twitter account this morning:
Aaron will be honored during a special ceremony prior to Atlanta’s home opener against the New York Mets on April 8th. It marks the 40th anniversary of the day Aaron belted number 715 , surpassing Babe Ruth to become baseball’s home run king.
