Journalist and publisher, Mariam Alexis Scott, was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Her grandfather, W.A. Scott, II, founded the Atlanta Daily World, which is the nation’s first black-owned daily newspaper. A Spelman graduate, Scott has achieved major success in media, and after having a 22 year career with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Cox Enterprises, where she worked her way up from reporter to vice president of community affairs and finally director of diversity, she immersed herself in the Atlanta Daily World to help maintain the historical position of her family’s legacy. Scott has been featured as a commentator on The Georgia Gang and serves as a board member of the Atlanta History Center, the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau and Central Atlanta Progress.
