Bowie State’s Darrell Brooks Talks Bulldog B’Ball

On the 1-10-14 edition of the HBCU Report we were joined by Darrell Brooks head coach of the CIAA defending basketball champion Bowie State Bulldogs.

Darrell Brooks enters his fifth season as head coach of the Bowie State University men’s basketball program. The 58 year-old Brooklyn native is a 1979 graduate of the University, as well as a two-year letterwinner for the Bulldog Basketball team at point guard.

Before returning to serve his alma mater, Brooks gained a respected reputation as an assistant at George Washington University as a detail-oriented coach for eight years. During his time at George Washington, Brooks helped the Colonials put together four straight tournament years, including three straight NCAA appearances. George Washington also won two A-10 Tournament Championships and ran the table in the A-10 with a 16-0 record in 2006. In that same year, George Washington was ranked in the Top 25 for the entire season, achieving a high ranking of sixth.
