ATLANTA (AP) — The mother of a U.S. Army soldier who was fatally shot on a bike path in Atlanta last week confronted the second suspect in her son’s death as he was led into court Thursday.

Police have said 21-year-old Xavier Arnold was shot in an attempted armed robbery Dec. 26 in the city’s Kirkwood neighborhood. A second man was also injured.

Investigators have said 22-year-old Qutravius Jermaine Palmer surrendered for his involvement in the shooting on Wednesday. Police have already arrested a juvenile on murder and robbery charges. That suspect’s identity has not been released.

Footage from local television stations showed Arnold’s mother, Nichole Villafane, walking alongside Palmer asking him if shooting her son was worth it as he was being walked into court.

Palmer told Villafane he’s innocent.
