ATLANTA (AP) — State officials have launched their annual holiday effort to crack down on drunken drivers.

Officials with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said this week that Operation Zero Tolerance is underway and law enforcement officials are on the lookout for those driving under the influence.

Georgia’s blood alcohol limit is 0.08. Officials not that the holiday season is a particularly deadly time due to an increase in drivers under the influence being on the road. In Georgia, there were just over 1,100 alcohol-related crashes between Nov. 20 and Dec. 31. That was an increase from 997 such crashes in 2011.

Officials say the 2012 crashes resulted in 679 injuries and 20 deaths.
