Typically this late in the season, the injuries start to pile up for most NFL teams. Fortunately for the Atlanta Falcons, this is not the case as only four players are listed on this week’s injury report for their game against the Green Bay Packers.

It’s a split down the middle with two offense and two defensive players listed for the Dirty Birds. One player from each side of the ball is listed as probable while the other is listed as questionable. The only bad news about the small amount of Falcons listed this week is that three of them are starters.

Starting tight end Tony Gonzalez (toe) is the lone position player on Atlanta’s offense listed this week. He’s been limited in practice all three days and is listed as questionable. If he is unable to play this Sunday, expect both Chase Coffman and Levine Toilolo to fill in for the future Hall of Fame tight end.

Starting right guard and backup center, Peter Konz (ankle) is the other offensive player listed this week. He was limited in practice on Wednesday but was able to fully participate in practice both Thursday and Friday. He is listed as probable. If he can’t play, Garrett Reynolds is listed as his backup as the right guard.

On the defensive side of the ball, starting outside linebacker Sean Weatherspoon (knee) is the only starter listed. His week was identical to Konz’s week. Spoon was limited in practice Wednesday but fully participated in both Thursday and Friday’s practices. He too is listed as probable. Stephen Nicholas is listed as Spoon’s backup on the depth chart if he’s unable to play.

The only backup on the Falcons listed this week is strong safety Zeke Motta (hand). He’s been limited in practice all three days and is listed as questionable. Motta is William Moore’s backup.

The big question about injuries this week wasn’t on the Falcons side of things, but the game status of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has been healing from a broken collarbone suffered in Week 9 (November 4) against the Chicago Bears. The good news for the Falcons is that Rodgers will NOT be suiting up for the Packers this week as he is officially listed as out.

That means the Matt Flynn will be starting his second game in a row for a depleted Packers team. So if Atlanta wants to pick up win number four and their second in a row, they now have a much better chance at doing just that.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm EST.

For reference:

  • Probable: a 75% chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game

  • Questionable: a 50% chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game

  • Doubtful: a 25% chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game

  • Out: there is no chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game
