Coastal Ga. Woman Pleads Guilty In Baby’s Death
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A coastal Georgia woman accused in the death of her newborn baby in 2011 has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Chatham County District Attorney Daniel Baxter says 20-year-old Anitra Hicks also pleaded guilty to concealing a death Tuesday.
Prosecutors have said the woman gave birth, wrapped the newborn in garbage bags and hid the child in the back yard until the next morning. Investigators have said the baby was later thrown into a trash can and that sanitation workers found the child in the back of the truck when the compactor got stuck.
Baxter says Hicks will likely be sentenced in January.
