Atlanta (WAOK/AJC) — The National Weather Service has released an inclement winter weather advisory for this Thanksgiving weekend, as over 40 million travelers brace for bumpy rides and delays as an incredible winter storm makes its way to the eastern United States.
Flights at La Guardia Airport in New York City, Newark International in New Jersey, and Douglas International in Charlotte were grounded Tuesday as the weather affected flights throughout the country. Flights arriving to and departing from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were delayed for nearly half an hour. Many airlines have made concessions for travelers, offering to waive fees associated with changed or cancelled flights.
The winter storm has already claimed 11 lives nationwide and due to its severity, Georgians can expect unfavorable weather.Counties in North Georgia are expected to see snow, while metro Atlanta may be hit with wind gusts of up to 45 mph with temperatures in the 30’s. Snow flurries are also expected in the area. Drivers are advised to use caution on the road.
