19-5 Record In The Class AAAAAA Football Playoffs…Not That Bad!
Even though I didn’t do as well as I did last week (14-2), I still had a “good” week in the 2nd round of the Class AAAAAA Football Playoffs. With four number 1 seeds losing this week (North Cobb, Lovejoy, Hughes, and Camden Co.), it’s anyone championship now!! Out of the last eight teams in the classification, there are still four teams remaining in Gwinnett County (Dacula, Norcross, Collins Hill, and North Gwinnett). Enough of the stats, let’s get into previewing these quarterfinals matchups.
The first matchup is Colquitt County High School taking on the “never said die attitude” team in the Dacula Falcons. I have enjoyed watching Dacula play this season, but they have a mediocre defense as well as “grinding” out victories against (West Forsyth & Peachtree Ridge). Colquitt County surprised me in the 2nd round with a win over a very-talented North Cobb team. Both teams are coming off “minor” upsets, but I like the way that Colquitt County is playing. I am going to take them by a touchdown.
The next matchup is Lowndes High School taking on The Blue Devils of Norcross High School. Lowndes has played VERY consistent in the playoffs so far, but Norcross has been playing at a “whole” different level. Norcross has outscored their first two opponents (Etowah & Brookwood) 60-9!! There defense is “too” strong for Lowndes. Norcross wins this by two touchdowns.
Another “lopsided” matchup puts the McEachern Indians taking on the Collins Hills Eagles. I have always respected the McEachern program. They are well-coached and have had success in the past, but it’s a new “Era”!! Collins Hill has outscored their opponents (Walton & Alpharetta) 89-7. They are just too strong! This game could get “ugly” and quick! I will take Collins Hill by at least 14 points…maybe more!!
The last matchup the “Elite Eight” in the Class AAAAAA Playoffs is the “surprise” Hillgrove High School taking on North Gwinnett High. North Gwinnett has been playing well, but really haven’t been challenge in the playoffs. I know the scores (against Milton & Archer) haven’t been impressive, but they haven’t shown me the “passion” in the playoffs. I like watching North Gwinnett, but I need to see the “Fire” that I know Bulldogs have. Hillgrove has been a BIG surprise!! Their offense is legit and their defense can play with anyone. I like to see another Gwinnett County team in the “Final Four”, but I am going to take the upset and pick Hillgrove High School by a touchdown.
This is an excited time for High School Football. After these games on Friday, four teams will be traveling to the Georgia Dome to fight it out for the Class AAAAAA title. If anyone has any “extra” ticket for the “Final Four” matchups, let me know!!! These are my predictions once again…
– Colquitt Co. over Dacula
– Norcross over Lowndes
– Collins Hill over McEachern
– Hillgrove over North Gwinnett
Until next week…
